Doctors for Peace started from an idea from its founders on February 10th, 1996 during a visit to a Padaung village, near Kalaw, in central Burma. It was clear then that with simple interventions it would be possible to drammatically improve the health conditions of the local people. Working as a volunteer association dedicated to international health cooperation, in January 2002 Doctors for Peace was recognized as ONLUS (Non Lucrative Organization for Social Services) and registered in the Veneto Region Register of Volunteer Associations with the number VR0625.
